Join OVLC Docents Bob Blackmur and Scott Gillies on Saturday, March 8 for a geology hike at Valley View Preserve (VVP)! This 3.5 mile hike will start at Gridley Trailhead and traverse across Shelf Rd, exploring the geology of the Ojai Valley. This is a great opportunity to explore this preserve with experienced guides and fellow hikers and learn more about how our valley was formed. Along the way you will be treated to beautiful views of the Ojai Valley!

About the Docents

Bob is a retired geologist having worked in California, the Rockies, Appalachia, the Gulf Coast, and Brazil. His passion for geology came from his early love of hiking and camping with his Boy Scout Troop. Bob has lived in Ojai for over twelve years.

This moderately strenuous hike is appropriate for kids ages 10+. We also ask that you leave your furry friends at home (no dogs). Please wear closed-toe shoes, boots and pants recommended, and bring sun protection, water, and snacks. Hiking poles are recommended, but not necessary, for some slopes, rocky terrain, and slippery footing. Space is extremely limited and we often have a waitlist for these hikes. If you receive a spot, we ask that you please attend, or, if you are unable to make it, you contact us 48 hours in advance in order to offer your spot to someone else.
